Netflix and Vikramaditya Motwane join hands for a dark crime drama series, Black Warrant. This would be their fourth collaboration after the streamer’s first Indian original series Sacred Games, followed by AK vs AK and the recently released CTRL. The fans are excited because the filmmaker is known for giving something raw and out of the box. And, Black Warrant seems to be promising.
The series’ teaser has been released and received praise from the fans. It was just 1:15 long and that was enough to set the tone and offer a glimpse of what the audience can expect from this upcoming crime drama. Viewers are curious to know if Black Warrant is truly based on a true story or just a fictional tale.
Is Black Warrant Based on a True Story?
Vikramaditya Motwane’s production company Andolan Films and Josy Joseph’s Confluence Media jointly acquired the rights to adapt the book into the series in June 2020. It will be based on a book of the same name “Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer” written by Sunetra Choudhury and former Tihar Jail’s superintendent Sunil Gupta.
The book shares the differences in prison life between the poor and helpless and the rich and powerful. It also shares the shocking controversial confessions of infamous criminals. It also highlights the criminal behaviours that transformed over time. But the most important thing, it covers the prison life of India’s most famous criminals, politicians, and serial killers.
One particular detail in the teaser that grabbed viewers’ attention is the text Based on Certain Real Events, which means Black Warrant will be inspired by real-life events or situations but it won’t be entirely true. Some portions may be fictionalized to make the story engaging.
One thing is sure, The series will be worth watching as it gives a tone of dark humour with the real-life sequences.
