If anyone loves mystery films, Kishkindha Kaandam is the best option as the film’s climax unravels the shocking mystery that will certainly blow your mind. The screenplay seems slow, but as the story continues, it plays with audience’s attention. Many of the viewers are still confused about what happened in the ending. Directed by Dinjith Ayyathan and written by Bahul Ramesh, Kishkindha Kaandam was acclaimed for its story, screenplay, background score, and cast performance. The film became the 9th highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2024. The film stars Asif Ali, Aparna Balamurali, and Vijayaraghavan in the lead roles. It was released on 12 September 2024 and is currently available on Disney+Hotstar for streaming.
Kishkindha Kaandam Story
The film follows the story mainly between the three characters, Appu Pillai, an ex-military officer, Ajay Chandran K.V / Ajayan, Appu Pillai’s younger son, and Aparna, Ajay’s second wife.
The three live in a large mansion located near a dense reserve forest. Appu Pillai has to submit his licensed pistol, but it seems to be misplaced or perhaps he has forgotten where he last placed it.
The film starts with a search for a missing gun, but the story becomes interesting as the viewers get to know more about Appu Pillai’s personal life.
The first might be slow for many as it focuses on building the characters, but the second half is brilliant especially the last fifteen minutes, where all the answers are revealed. The story of the film is very simple but how the makers have written its screenplay that keeps the audience until the end, making Kishkindha Kaandam is truly a masterpiece.
Was Appu Pillai Losing His Memory?
After their marraige, Aparna notices that her father-in-law’s behaviour is strange. When she asks her husband Ajay, he tells his father was in Army which is why he is strict and talk very less with others. Over the time, Aparna realized Appu Pillai might be suffering from dementia.
One day, she follows her father-in-law who is carrying a cartoon full of papers and documents, which he is burning outside the house. Shocked to see this, She tries to stop the fire. In the middle of this, Appu Pillai pushes her and Ajay arrives just in time to help them.
This incident makes Aparna curious, so she asked Ajay, if his father has dementia? to which, Ajay replies Chachu was the first one who noticed that his grandfather was forgetting things and behaves not normally. However, Ajay later got to know from his father’s army friends that he had been dismissed from the army because his dementia had worsened.
Appu feels ashmed to tell anyone about the condition that’s why he behaves like he doesn’t have any problem and refuses to take any treatment.
Who Killed Chachu
One evening, Ajay was coming back to home and found Chachu was dead accidentlly shot by his grandfather’s pistol while his mother Pravina was trying to take the gun away from him.
Pravina was in grief and guilt who overdosed on her medicines. Though Ajay rushed her to the hospital and came back to home to collect her chemotheraphy documents, he found Chachu’s dead body was missing.
Appu Pillai tells Ajay that he knows Chachu is killed accidently but doesn’t want to know whether it happened because of Ajay, Pravina, or Chachu himself. Appu insists that no one should ever know the truth what happend to Chachu, as it is for the family’s own good.
Where Is Chachu?
When Ajay returned home, Chachu’s body was missing and the room was clean. It is obvious Appu has burried Chachu’s body but where? It is not shown in the film. Perhaps because Appu has dementia who has even forgotten where he burried the body.
Due to his worsening dementia, he forgets everything and each time he starts his investigation to search for the gun which lead him back to his grandson’s death which is why he burns all the evidences and clues every time.
Only Appu Pillai knows where is Chachu’s body but his memory loss has erased everything.
